Ion Concentration

A) Dissociation

  • Ionic Compounds are made up of 2 parts
  • +Cations: Positive charge particles
  • - Anions: Negative Charge particles
  • When ionic compounds are dissolved in eater, the cation  and anion separate from each other.

e.g) HCl → H+ +  Cl-

  • The process is called "Dissociation"
  • When Writing dissociation equations atoms and charges must be balanced

e.g) Sodium Chloride
       NaCl → (Na+) + (Cl-)

  • If the volume  does not change then the concentration  of individual ions depends on the balanced coefficient the dissociation equation.
